December 2011 Trestleboard

Posted December 1st 2011

Greetings from the East,

It’s hard for me to believe that one year has gone by, and my time in the East is coming to an end.

As many Past Masters not doubt know, the ending of a Master’s year is different for every Mason. As I look back on my year I think of the ups and the downs, and hope that somewhere along the line I served the lodge well. I’ve heard it said that “We learn best after the experience.” I learned a lot about myself ,and I think I am stronger in Masonry for it. I also discovered a lot about our Brothers in the lodge that I never would have without having had this opportunity.

I thank all of the Brethren for their support during this past year. It has truly had a profound effect on me as a Mason and as a man. Thank you for the honor of serving you as Worshipful Master this year.

November 2011 Trestleboard

Greetings from the East,

It’s hard to believe the end of another year is looming closer. This month begins the holiday season with Thanksgiving, and then Christmas next month. Where did this year go?

We are also coming to the end of another year at the lodge. This month, on Tuesday the 15th will be nomination, and election of officer for the 2012 year. Please make an extra effort to attend . It’s always a pleasure to see the faces of our Brothers that we have not seen for a while.

October was a great month for degree work.  We held an EA Degree on October 18th and welcomed Andy Hodgkins to Masonry. And on October 25th we held an FC degree for Brother Chris Craig who is seeking further light in Masonry. t is always exciting to be at the start of a new Mason’s journey.

Saturday the 22nd the District 3 meeting was held at our lodge, and it was great to see all of the Brothers who turned out from all over the district. It was a great morning for Masonic education and Fellowship.

The District meeting was followed by a Table Lodge, something that we have not held for a few years. It was made even more special with the appearance of Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master of Masons in Wisconsin, Brother Dennis Siewert as our guest speaker.

Looking ahead into December, the District Lecturer will be holding a School of instruction on 10th at 9am. I'll have more details during our meetings in November.

I will be sending out another online edition of this newsletter to all the Brothers that I have addresses for. If you would like to receive this via email, please contact me at dimlah@charter.net.

I hope you have a wonderful November with happiness for all Brothers and their families.

October 2011 Trestleboard

Greetings from the East,

Summer is gone, and we are beginning our journey into Autumn. The leaves are turning their bright colors, and it won’t be long until the white stuff starts swirling. I hope you had a wonderful summer.

September drew to a close with the loss of one of our brothers. Brother Dick Wilson having lived a useful and exemplary life as a just and upright Mason was summoned to the land where our fathers have gone before us. He was a fine and honorable Mason and true friend.

The rummage sale held on September 3rd was very successful, not just in terms of the amount of money raised, but the wonderful fellowship that was a part of the day. A big thanks to all those who made the day such a big success.

The Past Master’s dinner was held on Tuesday September 21st with a number of guests in attendance. As always the quality of the meal, and the fellowship that went with it were wonderful.

The work on the lodge windows is moving forward. The 3rd floor windows have been painted, the 2nd floor windows still need some work. Please take a moment and make a contribution to the Window Fund.

On Saturday October 22nd the lodge will host the district meeting beginning at 9am. That will be followed by a Table Lodge at noon. All brothers are encouraged to attend.

In addition to being mailed out, this newsletter is also being emailed to the brethren. If you would also like to receive yours via email please send your address to me at dimlah@charter.net

September 2011 Trestleboard

Posted September 1st 2011

Greetings from the East,

Sooner than expected, September is here and some of the leaves are already turning. I find it amazing how fast summer goes by.

I never ceases to be amazed at the strength our fraternity gives each of us...

Recently I was struggling with faced a hard challenge . One that I could not find answers to. It was something that had been causing me a considerable amount of stress. So I turned to my Brothers and they helped me find the answers I was looking for with caring, support, guidance, and brotherly love. Take a moment, now and again, to reflect on the strength we all share as a brotherhood.  When we face a challenge in life, we can truly count on each other.

One of the high points of August was the presentation of  a check in the amount of $3,244.00 to the American Cancer Society from the proceeds of this year’s Walk for a Cure. With 9 walkers taking part, this was an amount to be proud of.

An anonymous brother  has offered up to $1,000 in matching funds to repair the windows of the lodge building. I urge you to contribute as liberally as you can so our lodge will continue to be a source of pride for many more years to come.

Finally, for fire safety, please remember to close the doors in Harmony Hall before leaving the building.

August 2011 Trestleboard

Posted August 1st 2011

Greetings from the East my Brothers,

August begins the journey to late summer, and sooner that we expect will begin the transition to fall. I am very pleased with all that has been accomplished in our lodge, as well as being proud of the brothers who have stepped up to make us reach many goals.

Among the highlights from July, our steak fry was well attended and a lot of fun. As for the steaks, Brothers Bill Lonie, Don Schroeder, and Bob Smith were instrumental for turning out delicious steaks.

The first step in lodge clean-up was on July 17th with the storage area under the main stairs, and the pantry. The pantry was also reorganized and looks better than is has in years. If you use the pantry please leave it the way you found it, plus if you see that we are running short of any items please let someone know.

Beginning July 26th we began sprucing up the entryway, and ladies rest room with fresh paint. It is my intention to continue to spruce up our lodge building with new paint, cleaning, and improving the look of our public areas.

Looking ahead:

There will be a Ladies Night on Tuesday the 9th at 6pm.

The lodge will hold a Rummage Sale on Saturday September beginning at 9am. If you have anything to contribute, like those things that are good shape but you don’t need, please feel free to bring those down to the lodge. No computers or any kind of electronics will be accepted.

As I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, we are continuing to collect items for Brother Justin Baker who is serving his country in Afghanistan. There is a collection box in Harmony Hall. Let us all make an extra effort to keep this box filled so we can provide comfort to our Brother. Something else that is appreciated by all those serving overseas are letters from home. For them it’s like Christmas morning when they hear their name at Mail Call. Here is Brother Baker’s address. Please send greetings to him. A letter, short note, or even a card will mean the world to our Brother and Hero. Send them to: SPC Justin Baker, 428th ENCO 863rd ENBN FOB Wilson APO AE 09370

As always, I look forward to seeing all of the brethren at lodge. I invite you to come to our next meeting on Tuesday August 2nd and get caught up with what your lodge is doing.
